Mary’s Little Donkey
This book is all about a sweet and cute little donkey that belongs to Mary (not the kind of Mary who has a little lamb), mother of the true meaning of Christmas. (Do I mean Santa Claus? You’ll have to read the book to find out!) In this story, the donkey speaks. (This is like how the ocean speaks to Moana in my last book review, Moana and the Ocean.) The donkey talks to Mary, and he talks to her with “hee-haws” at the end. Throughout the story, you “hear” or read what the donkey is thinking about as Mary and Joseph make their way toward Bethlehem. His thoughts are kind and encouraging. For example, the donkey thought, “I’ll show you some day!” when the other donkeys teased him for being messy. It’s like he knew that he had an important job to do! I really liked that there is a lesson in this book. It says, “Christmas isn’t about Santa Claus, it’s about Jesus.” Boys and girls whose favorite holiday is Christmas will enjoy this book.
