The Jumbies
Parents on Corinne’s island tell their children stories about the jumbies, who live in the forest and steal children. One day, when Corinne is chasing an agouti through the woods, she sees some glowing yellow eyes behind her. She had never really believed in Jumbies, but now she wasn’t quite so sure. The next day, at the market, she sees a pretty woman coming down the street who stops by the local witch. When Corinne gets home that night, she sees her father and the woman, Severine, talking. Corinne senses that the woman is dangerous, and thinks she is connected with the jumbies in some way. Corinne has to figure out what’s happening, because the jumbies have started attacking at night; but Corinne herself has hidden connections to the jumbies that even she doesn’t know about.
This book is a tense and exciting novel full of danger and magic. Corinne’s love for her friends and family keep her going as she tries to find answers and protect the people closest to her. The characters had different personalities, but they all wanted their friends to be safe. This is an exciting story with a satisfying ending.
