National Geographic Kids Myths Busted! 2: Just When You Thought You Knew What You Knew . . .
This book lists facts that most people think are true but they are really myths. In the book a claim is made, the origin of the claim is given, and then the truth is explained. For example: A penny placed on railroad tracks can derail a train. People like to flatten pennies by putting them on train tracks. Some people started and spread untrue stories that a penny derailed a train. But there is no record of a coin causing a train wreck. The book explains why a coin that weighs less than an ounce cannot derail a train car that weighs over 100 tons.
I really liked the book. I think the facts were interesting. I was surprised that some of the things I thought were true were really myths. I thought the rubber tires on the car protect me from lightning; but now I know that isn’t true. I am safer in the car than outside in the storm, but not because of the tires. This book would be good for kids and adults. The pictures in the book were good too. I hope they write a third book because I want to read more facts and myths!
