The Yark
The Yark loves children – but maybe not in the way you’re thinking. He loves eating them for dinner! But only good children; bad children make him sick. In this story, the Yark keeps trying to find good children to eat, until he meets a really sweet and good girl named Madeline, who saves him, so he just can’t eat her. In the end, he has to fly away from her, even though he wants to stay and be with her. But then he comes back and doesn’t like to eat children anymore.
This is a weird story – it is unsettling to think about something that can just eat you. It is kind of sad, too, because in the world of this book, most of the kids are brats. If children think it’s real, this book would make them want to be naughty – so maybe you wouldn’t want your children to read it! The pictures are all in black and white, and there aren’t very many of them, but they are awesome. The Yark is both scary and funny and cute. The story has a good ending, too. So even though the book is strange, it’s still really good.
