The Puffin Keeper
The Puffin Keeper by Michael Morpurgo is one of my favorite books.
When Allen was five years old, he and his mother and other passengers were on a sinking ship when they were rescued by Benjamin, the lighthouse keeper on Puffin Island. He was inspired by how Benjamin saved lives. He was sent off to boarding school by his grandfather, where he had a hard time.
Allen eventually returned to Puffin Island and became good friends with Ben. They did everything together, even nursing back to life an injured puffin (who kept returning to Puffin Island). When Allen had to go to war, his lighthouse memories kept him going. He eventually returned to Puffin Island once again.
I loved everything about this book. The illustrations were so beautiful. They looked like paintings and were a perfect match for the story. I loved the friendship between Ben and Allen. They were meant to be friends. The book was written with so much love. The story shows how kindness can change a person’s life. I would recommend this book to everyone.
