The Gingerbread Witch by Alexandra Overy is a very good book. Maud wants to be a witch, but Mother Agatha hasn’t taught her magic, even though Maud has a witch mark. But Maud is a very unusual witch because she’s made out of gingerbread. She is only alive because Mother Agatha’s magic animates her. If anything happens to Agatha, Maud will crumble. When Mother Agatha is shoved into the oven by witch hunters, Maud has to go on an adventure to save herself and the rest of Agatha’s creations, her dearest friends.

We really like Maud because she’s on every page of the book and she’s the main character. Maud is very brave, even when she’s scared. We didn’t really understand Agatha at first, but then we did (but spoilers!). Aaron liked Ludo because he has an imaginative mind (like him!) and he’s always curious, and he loves botany. Oscar was annoying. But Gretal ended up being okay. If we could meet any of these characters, we’d want to meet Maud, Florian, Nuss, and Agatha. Also Ludo. Julianne is reading it again because she liked it so much.
