Spelled

Any and all fans of fairy tale retellings, and of The Wizard of Oz, mark your calendars because Spelled is just that! It is a fun and whimsical tale about a girl who may have made a mistake by wishing for something that alters the life she knows. Dorthea is the crowned princess of Emerald, and, to put it lightly, she’s a spoiled brat. There isn’t a prince that she wants to marry, and the night her parents tell her she’ll be betrothed to Prince Kato is the night that everything changes. Now, Dot is on the run with the prince and one of her kitchen girls, Rexi. It’s up to them to save Emerald from the evil witch before it’s too late. All the while, her parents are in a foreign land: Kansas! I loved Schow’s version of Oz and other fairy tales. She had me laughing and rooting for these characters as they faced obstacle after obstacle. I highly recommend this story to everyone because it’s a magical ride, and everyone needs a little bit of magic in their life.
