Tavia is a young siren. For many years, her kind have been treated differently. They are thought to be dangerous and a threat to others. There are even siren-silencing collars that make sirens unable to use their voice. But something in Tavia is changing. She wants to know who and what she is. Tavia keeps looking to her dead grandmother for help, but she has never met her and doesn’t know how to get to her. And that’s not all that is happening. Her sister Effie’s hair suddenly begins moving by itself, her dry skin is becoming more extreme, and there are stone statues appearing everywhere around Portland. People are starting to become suspicious and Tavia has to make a choice: protect her sister and risk exposing herself or stay quiet and lose almost everything that matters to her.

I recommend this book to fantasy lovers of all ages, especially those between ages nine and twenty. This book would also be a great read for people who enjoy drama and adventure. I really enjoyed this book. It was filled with action and drama and mystery. This book drew me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down. It was so good that even my mom had to read it from cover to cover as well! A Song Below Water is a must-read book!
