Scripted Unscripted
Scripted unscripted/ was a really fun, fast-paced young adult novel about Ellie, who is sixteen years old and facing many hard choices. She has always been used to helping her Dad on set with handling animals that are being filmed for movies and t.v., but now the animal business is failing because Hollywood producers don’t need animals as much anymore. The backup plan was to move to her grandpa’s lettuce farm, yet suddenly one of her father’s friends beg her to replace a recently fired actress on a sitcom.
When Ellie arrives on set she discovers she will be working with her frienemies, megastar Kate, Kate’s ex-boyfriend Logan, who seems to like Ellie, and new actor (who happens to be super cute) Cam. With her new carrier, Ellie ends up being adored by the producers and by both boys. The show seems doomed which means she will have to choose to either sacrifice her true self to Hollywood or to give up everything “normal”, possibly lose the guy she really likes and move to the lettuce farm…
I really enjoyed this novel a lot. The plot was stellar and I was scared Ellie would make the wrong choice and I thought that she was going to have a sad ending multiple times. However, Ellie was strong and always had ideas to keep going. It was satisfying and made me really happy for the characters. I could not put it down and read it quickly. I also learned that life in Hollywood is almost never as glamorous as it looks and that it’s tempting to use fake rumors to get publicity, which is so wrong. I would recommend the novel to tweens twelve and up, who enjoy romance, amazing characters, and a page-turning plot.
