Nantucket is a old island with a long history. There are some families that have been living on the island for hundreds of years. People who have lived in Nantucket for a long time have always accepted that ghosts are part of their lives, but these ghosts are not scary, they are just family members who have passed on who stay in these old houses.

Some new contractors have come to Nantucket and have begun remodeling the old houses; however, the houses don’t seem to like this. In fact, the houses (or whatever spirits live in them) start to fight back against the construction workers.

This is a fascinating story told by Mary Chase, who is one of the ghosts. She can see everything that is happening around the island even if she doesn’t understand why it is happening. Usually when you think of ghosts, you think of something scary, but this book wasn’t. It was more a mystery, trying to figure out who is protecting the houses and why. I liked how this book had both stories from the past and the present. It showed that just because something is old doesn’t mean it is no longer good, and sometimes it is important to protect history.
