One Year of Ellsmere
Juniper, a public school student, is given a scholarship to attend a boarding school at Ellsmere Academy for Girls. The school is full of wealthy students. Jun befriends her roommate Cassie, whose parents are too busy to be involved with her life. Wealthy and a straight-A student, Emily, feels threatened by Jun’s acceptance to Ellsmere. Emily and Jun compete for the best grades. Emily steals Jun’s favorite watch which reminds Jun of her father who died. Out of anger, Jun punches Emily in the face and makes her bleed. What will happen between Emily and Jun’s constant fighting? One Year At Ellsmere is a wonderful graphic novel about friendship, rich vs poor students, bullying, and school life. I can’t comment on the illustrations and color since I received an advance copy, and the majority of the story was in black and white. Besides the color, there was one scene that was missing some artwork. There were some fantasy parts in the story which I didn’t expect. I still enjoyed the story and would recommend it to the kids and young adults who enjoy stories about friendship and school life.
