Once Was a Time

I think that Once Was a Time is a god book. It is about when best friends Lottie and Kitty are separated into two different time periods! Their real names are Charlotte and Catherine.

Charlotte’s father is obsessed with time travel. He spends most of his time on it. One day, these people showed up at Lottie’s house while Kitty was visiting and kidnapped both of them. They put them in a room with guards. They could see Lottie’s father on the other side. They threatened to kill the girls if Lottie’s father didn’t tell them about how portals work. Unfortunately, he didn’t know. Then Lottie saw a portal. She was the only one who could see it. So she decided to jump through it leaving Kitty behind to die.

Lottie finds herself alone in a strange place. She is in America in August 2013! (By the way, she just came from England in October 1940.) Lottie now has to start a whole new life with new friend and family. Three years later, Lottie finds a letter from Kitty inside of her favorite book, The Little Princess. That means that Kitty is still alive! Lottie then travels to Italy just to find Kitty. It turns out she was right. Kitty had survived, but she went through time the normal way. She was old. They reunited and were happy.

This book was very magical and suspenseful. It does have violence in it, so I don’t recommend it for younger kids. Otherwise it was a great book. I recommend it for ages 8-13.
