Inside Charlie’s Chocolate Factory
This book is about everything Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It includes a short segment of a draft of an earlier version of the Roald Dahl’s famous book. I was interested to find out that the book was originally called Charlie’s Chocolate Boy and featured Charlie meeting the workers at Wonka’s factory called “Whipple-scrumpets”- aka Oompa Loompas. It is also filled with fascinating background information on both the 1971 and 2005 movie versions, as well as the stage versions of the book. There is also a comparison of illustrations over the years from four different illustrators. Of course, there is also some delicious information about chocolate, featuring you-know-who’s chocolate/candy company.
Although I did enjoy reading about the behind-the-scenes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I wished that this book would focus more on the book rather than the movies/stage versions of the book. I did like the pages inside that showed Roald Dahl’s original drafts. However, I would note that the book seems directed to an adult audience. Also, I enjoyed the large amount of behind-the-scenes photos that were in the book. I would recommend this book to all Roald Dahl and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fans.
