Benny and Penny in How To Say Goodbye: TOON Level 2
Benny and Penny are mice who are brother and sister. While playing in the fall leaves one day, they discover that their friend, Little Red the salamander, is dead. When Penny picks up Little Red to hold him, Benny whacks him away out of her hands and says, “I don’t care! Get it away!” Little Red ends up in a tall bush that Penny can’t reach. Benny stomps away, saying, “I’m not sorry he’s dead!”
Melina the mole helps get Little Red down. She and Penny work on a plan to bury Little Red. Benny keeps being mean, saying the girls cannot use his pail to bury Little Red. How can Benny not care? Is he being mean to hide how he is really sad?
Penny and Melina finally bury their friend. Will Benny come and say goodbye to Little Red? Will he remember that Little Red was really a good friend and should be missed?
It is hard to say goodbye, especially to someone you love. This is a good story that talks about how different people have different feelings when sad things happen.
