A Symphony of Cowbells
It is springtime in the mountains and you can hear all the cowbells in perfect harmony. Petra goes out to the field and finds that her cow Elfi’s bell has gone missing. Petra tries to put a small bell on Elfi, but Elfi doesn’t like it. It does not sound right. Elfi and the other cows maid down and refuse to move or make milk. Petra has to find Elfi’s bell. She looks everywhere. Will Petra be able to find Elfi’s bell?
I really liked A Symphony of Cowbells because it was not like other stories I have read before. The illustrations were beautiful and the margins at the bottom of the page showed a separate little story that was happening. This second story comes together when Petra finds Elfi’s bell. I wasn’t really sure what it all meant until it came together in the end. I loved the different sounds that the bells made and that they were written in different fonts. The authors really made you feel Elfi’s stubborn personality even though she doesn’t talk. I would read A Symphony of Cowbells again because I want to look at the illustrations again more closely.
