Mameshiba: Enchanted
Mameshiba: Enchanted is a book about cute little creatures that are called Mameshiba. Mameshiba are beans with dogs’ faces. They have names like Edamame, Chili Bean, Pistachio, and Sword Bean. Each of the three chapters has its own villain that the Mameshiba have to beat. They have lots of exciting adventures fighting space robots, mummy cows, and ghosts. Their biggest foe is a giant tortoise who puts an evil curse on Cranberry Bean.
This is a really funny graphic novel. Like all graphic novels, both the illustrations and the text are necessary for you to understand the story. The pictures are well drawn and look like they are done with colored pencils. It is also very silly, and seems to have several spoofs on Dr. Seuss. For example, a weird camel-creature says to Sword Bean, “I won’t eat you on the hill, I will eat you by the mill. But I will eat you. Yes I will!” Fortunately, Sword Bean escapes. This book is short and easy to read. I recommend it for people who like Captain Underpants and cute little animals. I can’t wait to read the next book.
