Saving the Countryside: The Story of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit
As a girl, Beatrix Potter was given a bunny, which she named Benjamin Bouncer. She drew pictures of her sweet bunny over and over, which led to her drawing pictures of other animals near her summer cottage. Over time, her drawings progressed. The animals had clothes on and had other human attributes.
When she grew older, she sent her illustrations to a publisher and earned money when they were turned into holiday cards. Peter Rabbit is the story that made Beatrix Potter famous, and it also helped her to be financially secure so she could be generous. I did not know anything about her life story before reading this book and now I think she is very interesting.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful. The detail of Ilaria Urbinati’s pictures really makes you feel like you’re in the picture with the wind in your face and the smell of the grass around you. I recommend Linda Elovitz Marshall’s story of Beatrix Potter to anyone who loves heart-warming stories. This book is great for all ages!
