The Trials of Apollo: The Tyrants Tomb is the newest book in Rick Riordan’s Trials of Apollo series.

Apollo, also known as Lester, is on his way to Camp Jupiter with his master/friend Meg, and now that they’ve freed Herophile from the Triumvirate’s clutches, they are going to follow the prophecy to New Rome.

Apollo has a long agenda; some highlights include taking a hike to Tarquin’s Tomb with Praetor Reyna, daughter of Bellona; playing piece-the-prophecy-together with Tyson the Cyclops and Ella the Harpy; looking deeper into the mystery of cut off communications and finding another Oracle. It should be fun!

Our dear former god Apollo should be able to balance all of this, right? Of course, nothing is ever easy in a quest, and a wound that just refuses to heal on top of a lengthy to-do list and the impending threat of battle makes it all the more difficult and exciting for Apollo.

I greatly enjoyed this book; reading Apollo’s odyssey never fails to be entertaining. Along with the quick-paced action, I loved how realistic the characters are. I know that’s strange to say for a fantasy/mythology novel, yet the way Rick Riordan represents the entire world’s culture is amazing. One of my favorite new characters is Lavinia Asimov; she’s a Jewish daughter of one of the Nine Muses, and she has pink hair and is sort of rebellious. I think Rick Riordan again does a great job of representing the LGBTQ community in his books. The plot was always exciting and definitely one of my favorite book series. I would recommend this novel to kids, 10 and up, who like action, mythical monsters, and other Rick Riordan books.
