Jake, Lucid Dreamer
Have you ever had a dream that felt so real to you that you woke up and didn’t know dream from real life? Maybe you’re a lucid dreamer like Jake. A lucid dreamer is a person who can control their dreams and interact with their dreams. Jake is a normal, moody seventh grade student, he isn’t very popular, and he gets picked on by some of the other students. The one thing that makes Jake different is that his mom died when he was eight years old. The one place where Jake feels safe is when he is dreaming, until his dream friends start to make him try to work out his feelings and let go of some of his anger. Jake must learn how to overcome his dreams and let go of some of his emotions so that he can have a better life outside of his dreams.
If you are looking for an exciting read with relatable characters, Jake, Lucid Dreamer is the right book. Middle school can be tough for everyone, but showing how Jake dealt with everyday normal problems as well as his big problem (his mom dying) makes it seem like anyone can conquer their fears.
