Mutant Mantis Lunch Ladies! (A Monstertown Mystery)
Carlos and Benny are kids. In another book, they battled were-hyenas. (I want to read that book.) AJ is a lunch monitor. He tells Carlos and Benny that boys are getting bullied by the lunch ladies. This is new. He also saw one lunch lady turn into a praying mantis. Benny and Carlos investigate. Girls have different lunches than boys. Boys get junk food. The girls get green glop. The girls start changing. They start bullying the boys. Some of the boys start disappearing. Will Carlos and Benny save their school? Read the book to find out.
This book is insulting to every gender. When the girls are bullying, they say the girls are acting like boys. I think it’s important to talk about girls’ rights. I think the author was trying to do that, but he could have done a better job. All boys are not the same. All girls are not the same.
I think Carlos and Benny get lucky battling monsters. The cover of the book is fun. The lunch lady’s face changes into a mantis when you turn the book. (I think the mantis face is cuter.) The pictures in the book are good. I liked the characters of Mrs. T and Mr. Boo. I might read more Monstertown Mystery books.
