The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World
I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down, and it was the only book I wanted to read until I finished it. My mom kept asking me, “What are you laughing about?” while I was reading the book because it’s really funny.
In The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World, there is a girl named Doreen Green who figures out she is secretly a super hero. Her parents try to protect her as she’s very young to be a superhero, but she still wants to save the world from a person named Micromanager. One of her squirrel friends is named Tippy Toe, and my favorite part is when she tells Doreen, “You are Doreen Green – Age fourteen, over five feet tall and not an inch mean. You are also Squirrel Girl—Super Hero, with both powers of squirrel and powers of girl. And you are my friend.”
I would recommend this book for ages eight and up because younger kids might find it confusing that the chapters are from different characters’ points of view and because the only pictures are of Tippy Toe doing Kung Fu at the beginning of her chapters. I also really enjoyed the text messages and that Doreen has added footnotes to the entire book that explain how she feels about things, but those would be hard to understand if you weren’t reading it yourself.
All of the characters are weird, but you get to really know them and like them even if they can’t hear well or have a squirrel tail!
