Lotus and Feather
Lotus is a little girl who cannot speak and lives with her grandfather near a lake. Grandfather says that the lake is empty because of fisherman and hunters. One day Lotus is near the lake when she sees an endangered crane. But the crane gets shot, and Lotus brings him home for grandfather to help. Lotus helps the crane heal and calls him Feather. Feather likes to follow Lotus and dances to her whistle. One night Feather wakes up Lotus and grandfather to warn them that the village is flooding. They are able to wake up the whole village and save everyone. Feather is a hero. Soon Feather will fully heal and Lotus will need to say goodbye to her friend.
I really loved Lotus and Feather. I liked the story because Lotus was helping an animal and my family helps with a cat rescue. The illustrations are soft, beautiful, and add to the story. The illustrator made Feather look like a long, graceful, beautiful crane. I didn’t see it coming when Feather helped save the village from a flood. I would recommend Lotus and Feather to kids of all ages and people who are learning about China.
