Emily Windsnap and the Ship of Lost Souls

Emily Windsnap is half-mermaid. She goes to Five Bays Island with her school. She’s supposed to do educational scavenger hunts, but no one meets them when they arrive. One of the rules is: do not go into the fifth bay. Emily goes into the fifth bay, of course. She finds a ghost ship. There is a strange woman in the porthole. (That part gave me nightmares.) The ship disappears. Emily finds out the ship is stuck in Atlantis. Atlantis is a nice place. No one wants to leave it. (I wouldn’t like to stay there, because six days feels like eight months, then you disappear forever.) Emily has to go to Atlantis and help the ship escape. Who was that lady? Will Emily be trapped in Atlantis forever? Read the book to find out.

I give this book three stars, because Emily talks way too much – especially about being between “like” and “love.” This book has lots of similes. I thought they were fun. This book needs more animals and more comedy. It is plenty exciting. The description of merpeople was good. The author put too much dramatics in about the tail coming into the water each time. This book is good for kids six and up.
