The Life and Rhymes of Miss Biscuit: Lost and Found
Lost and Found is a book about a wild dog that lived on the streets. One dreary and raining night, she finds a shed, but there is already a dog inside. At first the other dog is not so sure about letting Biscuit stay, but in the end, the he gives in. He gives her a biscuit, and that’s how she gets her name. A raccoon named Simone teaches her to read and write, and the raccoon and the dog teach Biscuit to hunt, too. In the end, it all works out with the help of a friendly human.
I loved the illustrations by Jessica Dupree. Since she probably used pastels because all the colors blend beautifully. This book is in one of my favorite styles of writing—poetry. In contrast, the plot was dull and not intriguing. I learned about the characters more from the pictures. I think that this book would be good for ages 6-10 or 11 depending if the reader is interested in poetry and animals. The pictures are a little scary, so little kids probably shouldn’t read this book. This book’s poetry was soothing, but its plot was not exciting.
