The Dark Island (Three Thieves)
Dessa, a human girl, along with Topper and Fisk, creatures who are her friends, finally arrive at the legendary island of Astaroth, where she hopes to find her twin brother Jared. However, they are captured by the Toymaker and have to make their way to escape before they can continue their quest. They don’t find her brother, but there is an unexpected twist involving him, and the team must endure tragedy.
The Dark Island by Scott Chantler is the sixth book in the series about Dessa, Topper, and Fisk. It is a graphic novel. The drawings are bright and vibrant. The author does a good job with developing the friendship between the girl and her creature friends. And in a surprising twist, Drake, who has been the evil villain the reader has loved to hate throughout the series, may not be such a bad knight after all. Even though this book is well into the series, it can also be understandable enough to stand by itself.
This book would be good for kids ages 6 to 11.
