Our Teacher is a Vampire and Other (Not) True Stories
I bet this could actually happen in real life – kids at a school writing in a book together. It’s Alexander H. Gory, Jr.’s book. It has blank pages. He got it for his birthday. He decides they’ll write about how their teacher is a vampire. He read the teacher’s journal and found out she’s having cravings. He thinks that the teacher is going to suck the librarian’s blood. The kids start writing in the book about it. The teacher tells them she’s not a vampire. She’s going to have a baby. She’ll let them keep writing in the book because it’s good practice. There’s a writing contest the kids want to enter. They write to an author, Mali Koam, to ask for tips for the book contest. A substitute teacher comes and won’t let them write in the book. Will they convince the substitute to give the book back? Read the book to find out.
I loved this book! I liked the illustrations. It was easy to read. I learned about how to write “WOW Stories.” I already knew about metaphors and cliffhangers. I forgot about alliteration. I like how the kids wrote different things. Alexander likes spooky stories. Nick makes really bad poems. I wish Mali Koam’s books were real. This book makes me want to write!
