This book describes a year in advance – 2017! This book, like all almanacs, isn’t really a story, but is actually a big collection of useful facts. There are facts about the past year, about animals, about entertainment, about sports, and about many other things. There aren’t any specific characters in this book so I am the character and the reader! There are lots of different illustrations in this book. Some are paintings and some are photographs. For example, there is a hidden picture of Emma Stone, who appears in the Entertainment section. There are also color maps of each continent and each U.S. state to go along with facts about them. One interesting fact that I learned in this book is that Pennsylvania is the only one of the original thirteen colonies that doesn’t border the Atlantic coast. Another thing I learned is that the Hackaball toy syncs with a mobile app that allows users to program when and how the ball lights up. One thing I liked about this book is learning a whole lot of different facts. There wasn’t anything about the book that I disliked. A quote from this book that I liked is, “Sponges live in water and are immobile.” Now, that’s another interesting fact! Readers who “love the facts” and are maybe doing research would like this book. The illustrations make it easy to use.
