The Watchmen of Port Fayt
Joseph Grubb is a serving boy at a tavern in Port Fayt. He has spent most of his life being ordered around by his uncle, so his life is turned upside down when he finds a small package dropped by one of the customers. It turns out that the Watchmen of Port Fayt, known as The Demon’s Watch, is searching for the very package Joseph now possesses. Tabitha, the newest member of The Demon’s Watch, is very pleased with herself when she finds Joseph and retrieves the package. Joseph learns from the Watchmen that the package contains a very powerful wooden spoon. Joseph and Tabitha find themselves wrapped up in a mystery that involves this wooden spoon, a witch, and a legendary sea demon.
It is fun to read about the excitement and danger as well as the friendship and care the Watchmen have for one another. I liked the new and original fantasy monster that was in this book, and I liked how it had a whole bunch of different monsters with human-like personalities, such as a troll or a goblin. It was a good blend of lots of different traditions.
