Bunny the Brave War Horse: Based on a True Story

Bunny was a police horse when the world was fighting World War I. He was chosen along with a lot of other trained police horses to go over to Europe to help fight the war. They went over on ships. He was named Bunny because his ears were longer, like a rabbit’s. The war horses helped the soldiers, carried wounded soldiers, pulled carts, and did other things to help in the war. Bunny and his riders had to go through a lot of scary situations, but were able to do it. Eighteen horses went over with Bunny from the same police force, but Bunny was the only one to survive the war. He stayed in Europe after the fighting ended.

I liked the book, the story, and the drawings. I’ve read other books that talk about animals in war and sometimes they don’t dive into history or they jump around too much. While this book doesn’t tell a lot about World War I, it tells enough to help us understand and it flows well. This book would be good for kids ages 5 to 9.
