Theodore Boone: the Fugitive

Theodore Boone is on the annual eighth-grade class-trip to Washington D.C. when he spots Pete Duffy, a man accused in Theo’s home town of Strattenburg of committing his wife’s murder. Theo manages to catch video footage of Duffy, which is sent to the FBI. This leads to a wild chase around the capitol city to find the elusive Duffy, who plans to escape to South America.

When Theo gets back to Strattenburg, he finds the trial might not go as smoothly as he had thought. Bobby Escobar, an illegal immigrant from Cuba, and the prosecution’s lead witness, fears for his freedom, and attempts to escape back to Cuba just as the trial begins.

It’s up to Theo and the FBI to make sure that Duffy gets to where he belongs – jail.

This Theodore Boone novel certainly contains more serious and less humorous subject matter than the previous books. While the subject matter was still appropriate, younger readers may find this book less enjoyable. Also, the book ends unsatisfactorily with a cliffhanger that was both dark and, for the most part, unnecessary.
