When Mischief Came to Town
In 1911, a little girl named Inge Maria goes to live with her grandmother because something happened to her mother in Copenhagen. When she sees an old lady on the shore, she knows it is her grandmother. Her grandmother is very short, fat, and mean at first. Inge Maria gets in lots of trouble on the little island of Bornholm. For example, when she disobeys at school, she hides in a smokehouse and ends up smelling like herring. Grandmother lives on a farm, and Inge Maria learns to help Grandmother with her animals. At the same time, Inge Maria misses her mother and learns why Grandmother is mean to her at first. What will Inge Maria do next?
I really like this story. It is very funny. My grandmother and I laughed out loud when I read it to her. For example, Inge Maria runs off with one of Grandmother’s friend’s bloomers. I like Inge Maria because she gets in a lot of trouble like me. I think this is a good book for people who like to laugh.
