Soap on a Rope
In the book, Soap on a Rope, Abby gets a present in the mail. She hopes for a toy, and her dog hopes for a bone or an ice cream cone. Abby is disappointed when she opens it up to find soap on a rope. She thinks it is a mean joke. What is she supposed to do with a soap on a rope? Abby and her brother get creative and find out that soap on a rope can actually be a great gift. With a bit of water, soap can make bubbles and get the grass all slippery for a slide down a hill. Abby loves her Soap on a Rope.
I liked reading Soap on a Rope because of the way it is written in rhyme. Because of the rhyming words, it was easier for my mom to read it to me. But, I am also able to read this book on my own, even if there were words that I had never read before, like “bizarre” and “caboodle.” The illustrations were bright, but different than other books I have read. I liked when Abby makes a rainbow with the hose water to make bubbles from the soap.
