Rodeo Red
Rodeo Red is a little girl and she loves to pretend that she is a cowgirl. Her stuffed dog, Rusty is her favorite companion. Then Slim (her new baby brother) shows up. Slim is OK at first—he just lays there—then pretty soon he can walk and gets into things. Slim has his eyes on Rusty and there isn’t anything Red can do about it. She tries to take her stuffed dog back, but the sheriff (mom) puts her behind bars (into time out). What can Red do to get her Rusty away from Slim’s grubby little hands?
I thought this book was really funny. Red talks and describes everything like she is a cowgirl. She says things like, “squawling like a fire truck heading to a wiener roast gone bad.” The illustrations are bright, colorful, and they give you a better idea of what is happening, Red says Sheriff put her in a “holding cell,” but the illustrations show her sitting in a time out chair. It was a bit hard for me to read on my own, but me and my four-year-old sister loved when Mom read it to us.
