I read a book called Abe Lincoln: His Wit and Wisdom from A–Z. It was written by Alan Schroeder and illustrated by John O’Brien. This book would be nonfiction because it is not fiction since it did really happen. Abe Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. He did a lot of important things. He was president through the Civil War, but not now. The Civil War was a long time ago! This book is organized by the alphabet, starting with the letter “A” for things like “Amendment,” “Autobiography,” and “Ax.” I like that there are sayings from Abe Lincoln, like, “In giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free.” In 1863, he signed the Emancipation Proclamation which freed slaves. The illustrations look like something from an older time. I can tell that because of the clothes that the people are wearing. I learned that Abe Lincoln was very tall; did you know that he had a bed that was not like mine because it was nine feet long? I liked reading about how Abe Lincoln was a little boy in Kentucky, the place where my daddy lived. This would be a good book for kids who like to learn about the presidents of our country.
