Maxi’s Secrets (or what you can learn from a dog)
I think that Maxi’s Secrets is a good book. It is about a boy named Timminy. He moves from Portland to Skenago. His parents bribe him with a dog to move to Skenago. Timminy had to move, so he got a dog. He got a Great Pyrenees, even though his parents wanted something different. His dad named her Maxine, but Timminy didn’t like the name, so he called her Maxi. Timminy does not have any friends, so Maxi is his only friend. Timminy is very, VERY short for his age, so when he starts school in his new town, he gets bullied a lot. As he goes through fifth grade, he grows a strong relationship with Maxi and makes a few fiends. Then Timminy finds out that Maxi has bone cancer. Maxi had been limping, so now they know why. Maxi got weaker, and her legs started to give out. Slowly, she lost her ability to walk. Then they had to put Maxi to rest. Timminy had learned a lot from Maxi. I like how the author used characters that you might find in real life. The story seemed realistic. Maxi’s Secrets can teach you some very valuable life lessons. I also like how the story ends. The ending was sad, but at the same time it was happy. It was a very heartwarming story. In the end, I think that Maxi’s Secrets is a good book for ages nine to thirteen.
