Secrets of the Last Merfolk (Kelpies)
Secrets of the Last Merfolk is an intriguing fantasy mystery book. Finn is a young boy who is on vacation with his dad, his sister, and his new stepmother. He is still having difficulty dealing with his parents’ divorce and is not a fan of his dad’s new wife; he doesn’t know that this trip will change his life.
Meanwhile, Sage is a young nomad who lives with her mom and brother. She is protesting against the rebuilding of a log camp with her family. This protest will change her view on everything.
When Sage and Finn become friends, they both realize that they have been seeing and hearing strange things in the water. The two new friends discover that merfolk are living near them, but a dangerous beast is also lurking in the waters. Can Finn and Sage save the mermaids from this ancient threat?
Secrets of the Last Merfolk is a good book, although it is not the type of book that I would normally read. The book is great for children ages seven to nine. While I may have not enjoyed the book as much as I could have, I am sure that many others will love it.
