A Sky of Paper Stars
Yuna just wants to fit in, but it’s not so easy. Her grandmother, Halmoni, had once said that a thousand paper stars can grant one wish. Yuna wishes that she had a normal life in Korea, but the day after, her parents break the news to her that Halmoni just passed away. Her family must fly to Korea for the funeral. Overwhelmed by her loss, Yuna’s body starts to fade. Now she must fold a thousand more stars to save Halmoni, and herself, from disappearing forever.
A Sky of Paper Stars is a hopeful story about the grief of losing someone you love, and cherishing your memories with them. Yuna’s character has grown throughout the book. I also found Yuna’s little sister, Mina, to be really cute and expressive! I also appreciated the different fonts used when the characters were either communicating in Korean or English. The artwork is pretty good, I love the unique layout the author used.
I recommend A Sky of Paper Stars to Asian Americans who can relate to any of the characters, especially Yuna. I also recommend this book to everyone who enjoys folding paper stars!
