Small Mercies
Small Mercies by Bridget Krone is about an adopted eleven-year-old girl and her struggles to fit in. She has two foster mothers, Aunt Flora and Aunt Marry. Aunt Flora has a disease called Alzheimer’s which messes with her memory. At school, her problems just get worse. She does not participate in almost any public speaking activities and her teacher and principal want her to talk to a social worker. Mercy is extremely scared of social workers. She thinks they will want to relocate her to a “safer home.”
Watch the journey unfold as she makes new friends, stands up for what’s right, and finds her voice. I think ages nine to fourteen should read this book. Small Mercies would definitely make a great series. There are a lot more things she could accomplish and discover. This book reminds me of books like The One and Only Ivan by Kate DiCamillo and Bob by Wendy Mass. I would definitely recommend this book because it kept me interested and wanting to read more at every part of it. I couldn’t put it down!
