Surface Tension

This story promises to be a thriller and has all the parts needed–domestic terrorism, prejudice, racism, Islamophobia, amnesia, and lots of action. Jake is training for a bike race when he witnesses an act of domestic terrorism. But he doesn’t remember the details when he wakes up in a hospital with the police treating him like a suspect. Suddenly everyone he cares about is in danger. Jake has to work to protect everyone, even if he risks his life.

The plot was a good story and starts out really strong, but then it gets unbelievable. There were also questions that never really get answered. The story is well written and told from the perspectives of Jake and Betsy, a teen terrorist. The characters are strong and realistic and they are not perfect. I liked that his parents are actually in the story as real people involved in his life. It is a book that doesn’t need to be part of a series, although it might be fun to follow the characters on another adventure. This is a good book for people 12 and up who are mature and like suspense and action. It is an action-packed read.
