Anywhere Artist
The main idea of Anywhere Artist is that you can make art from things you find outside in nature and in your imagination. I think that is a great idea. This picture book encourages kids to daydream and make things up wherever they are, even without any paper or art supplies. The pictures combine photo cut-outs of things like rocks or flowers or driftwood into a collage with a girl character who is making the artworks. Sometimes you can’t tell what the picture is supposed to be. My favorite is the crazy animal made of leaves and driftwood. I think it is a dog, but my mom thought it was a chameleon! The letters are hard to read, too, because they look like somebody was writing fancy print with extra squiggles. This is a good book for little kids. My big sister, who really does like to make stuff out of things she finds outside, doesn’t like this book, so maybe not everyone will like it. Even if somebody is creative, it’s good to remember to use imagination as much as we can.
