Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess
Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess is about an eleven-year-old girl who is deaf. She uses sign language, finger-spelling, and sometimes a bit of lip-reading to communicate.
Macy’s life as she knows it is turned upside down when she gets a new step-dad and has to move. On top of all that, her mother wants her to help an elderly neighbor, Iris, pack her belongings for a move to an assisted-living home.
At first Iris and Macy don’t get along so well, and Iris doesn’t know how to sign, but after a few weeks of being together, they get to know each other and become friends.
Macy finds out about Iris’s special secret of how she sends special messages to encourage people to live their dreams!
In the end the two friends help each other to adjust to their new situations in life!
I loved this book because it was written in free-verse poetry, which made it a more interesting and fun read. I felt that this book had the wonderful message that you can always find something good in life, no matter what happens! I would recommend it for kids ten and up!
