Out of School and Into Nature: The Anna Comstock Story
Anna was a girl who loved nature. But unfortunately a lot of schools didn’t do nature classes – they stayed inside. Anna decided she was going to write lots and lots of books about insects and animals and nature and plants. When she grew up, she decided to be a teacher. She traveled the country teaching in schools about the wilderness. She convinced a lot of schools to let their classes be outside. This was about a hundred years ago, when girls were not expected to go to college or study very much, but Anna went to college anyway to study nature and she became a scientist. She helped a lot of children learn to love nature like she did.
This book has a lot of interesting pictures that tell Anna’s story very well. People who like exploring and discovering nature will like this book as well, and what is really nice is that this is a true story. The pictures are very beautiful. The book has a good message that everyone should be able to learn about nature and that if you love something you can find a way to share that with everyone, like Anna did.
