Sophomores and Other Oxymorons
Scott Hudson is completely confident that sophomore year will go perfectly. After all, what can go wrong now that freshman year is over? Turns out, sophomore year is a lot harder than it seems. The fact the Scott has two teachers that hate him doesn’t help. As sophomore year goes on, Scott learns that being smart just isn’t enough. He learns the importance of respect and and kindness, and what it means to be truly smart, and only then is sophomore year as good as he hoped. Sophomores and Other Oxymorons, written by David Lubar, is a funny and witty book about sophomore year. I love how, in the book, Scott always talks about different figures of speech and then points them out in his writing. Scott is a very likeable character that I think anyone could relate to. A lot of kids my age would enjoy this book because it is what we are going through right now. I haven’t read the prequel “Sleeping Freshman Never Lie,” but I want to. I think it would be really fun if David Lubar wrote a book about Scott for junior and senior year as well.
