The Alamo: Myths, Legends, and Facts
This book is about The Alamo. The book really explains the history surrounding the Alamo and the battle. The Alamo was a Spanish mission that was taken over by Mexican soldiers and became a fort. Texas was originally part of Mexico, which was ruled by Spain. The Spanish government said Americans could settle in Texas. Later Mexico won independence from Spain. The Texan settlers took over the mission. The Battle of Alamo was between Mexican soldiers and Texan settlers. (Some Tejanos, Mexican Texans, also fought, helping the Texans.)
The book explains how Davy Crockett, William Travis, and Jim Bowie are connected to the Alamo.
This book was interesting but it would have been better for someone who already knew a little about The Alamo or Texas history. I knew nothing about either; so it was confusing. Also, the book might be better for someone a little older than me; I am ten. It would be a good book if you are doing a research project about the Alamo. There are a lot of useful facts and details. There are also photos, drawings and maps in the book. It is a very small book but it has A LOT of information.
