Night Witches
I thought that Night Witches was a great book. It was about two sisters, Katya and Tatyana, who become night witches, young women who fly in lightweight planes at night during WWII. The main character, Katya, is technically too young to be a night witch, so she is left at home when her sister goes to fight. But then a disaster occurs that forces Katya to go in search of her sister. There were no pictures, but I didn’t think that this book needed them because of the descriptiveness of this author’s writing. I also thought that the author did a good job of mixing facts and fiction into the perfect historical fiction book. I was thoroughly captivated in some of the most exciting parts. There were several places where the plot changed unexpectedly, which I enjoyed. The author sometimes intentionally misleads you, and it was surprising when the plot became clear. The one thing that I would change about it was how much death there was. It was rather gruesome and sad in some sections. I think that because of that, this book should not be read by children below nine years old.
