The Wolves Return
A long time ago, there were no wolves left in Yellowstone National Park because people hunted them. They took some wolves from Canada and released them into the park. The elk did not know what to do, but they knew to be scared of the wolves. The elk herds moved into the forest, where food was harder to find but where it was easier to hide from the wolves. After the wolves arrived, the whole habitat changed. The beavers built dams, and birds built nests in the beaver ponds. Berry bushes started to grow back, which helped feed the birds and bears. The wolves hunted the elk, which helped keep the herds healthy. Bringing the wolves back to Yellowstone helped the whole habitat and allowed other animals to live better lives.
I loved The Wolves Return. I visited Yellowstone a few years ago and got to see all different kinds wildlife: black bears, grizzlies, bison, eagles, foxes, and elk. I think it was a good idea for Canada to give some wolves to Yellowstone or they wouldn’t have wolves to balance the elk herds. I loved the illustrations because they looked so real and had a lot of details. The author is also the illustrator. I would like to read other books by this author.
