Miss Moon: Wise Words from a Dog Governess
Miss Moon: Wise Words from a Dog Governess is a book about a woman dressed in a long black dress who takes care of 67 dogs along with her own monkey and dog. She teaches the reader while teaching the 68 dogs 20 lessons, one per page. Throughout the book, the painted illustrations show the lessons. At the very end, all 68 dogs are lined up for a class photo. The illustrations are vibrant and detailed. My favorite dog is Miss Moon’s bulldog, Petunia, who always wears some kind of accessory. At the beginning, there are two small paragraphs, but, surprisingly, throughout the rest of the book, there’s usually only a sentence per page. The lessons are inspirational or about behaving. For example, lesson 15 is about showing your loved ones that you care. Another lesson says, “A good book will chase the dark away.”
I think kids age 4-10 that are dog-lovers should read this book. It would make adults laugh, too. I like this book and I think it finds a fun way to teach kids lessons about a lot of different stuff.
