The Big Book of Canada (Updated Edition): Exploring the Provinces and Territories
Did you know that Canada will be one-hundred-and-fifty years old on July 1, 2017??? The Big Book of Canada will help you learn all about this beautiful country. It is a large book that covers all of Canada’s ten provinces and three territories. Each chapter is a different province or territory. It has so much information, but it is well organized. Each chapter shows a map of the province and describes the different landscapes (like the red soil farmland of Prince Edward Island), historical moments (like the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary), the people, important cities, important jobs (like miners in Sudbury, Ontario), famous residents (like Wayne Gretsky, Celine Dion, and David Suzuki), and a neat story about each province. I loved the story of Ogopogo in the British Columbia chapter. He is a Canadian sea monster who lives in Lake Okanagan. Each province has a recipe, which makes me want to try them all, especially nanaimo bars. I was really surprised that Terry Fox wasn’t in the book. He is one of my favorite Canadians to learn about since he tried to run across Canada after losing a leg to cancer. The Big Book of Canada is really good if you are doing research or just want to learn more about Canada.
