Snow Like Ashes
In the world of Primoria, there are eight kingdoms: four Seasons and four Rhythms. Sixteen years ago, Winter was overthrown and enslaved by Spring. Now, only eight Winterians remain free, one of them the Crown Prince. Meira is another of the surviving Winterians, but all her life she has been trying to prove to the other refugees that she is worth something. When Meira obtains a piece of the locket that is said to hold Winter’s magic, she feels like she will finally be able to prove her worth, but instead of holding a celebration, the refugees are forced to flee when Spring soldiers invade their camp. They flee to Cordell, a Rhythm who promises to help Winter fight Spring, but only for a price Meira is not sure she is willing to pay.
I liked the fictional world the author created; it was very vivid. I liked the plot’s twists and turns, and Meira’s development from a selfish brat to a regal warrior. I really liked, too, that even though the villain isn’t dead, and Meira knows he will come back, she manages to be happy with what she has. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
