My First Book of Baseball: A Rookie Book

This is a book that is about baseball. It explains the game of baseball to beginners at baseball, except for me, because I don’t actually play baseball. But I still like the book. The reason I like the book is because there is a little cartoon boy in the book who says funny things as the game is explained. For example, when a player is sliding in to base, he says, “So…tag you’re not ‘it’, you’re ‘out’.” One thing I didn’t particularly like about this book is that the cartoon boy who helps explain the game doesn’t have a name. One thing I did really like was learning about the various positions of defensive players and offensive players. For example, I like the name “shortstop” for a position!

The illustrations in the book are made up of actual photographs, the little cartoon boy, and extra sketches to help you learn more about the game of baseball. My favorite line from the book is when the umpire yells “Play ball!” I like this because my daddy told me that, by the rules, the umpire only HAS to yell “Play!”, although he can yell “Play ball!” Boys and girls who are readers and enjoy games and sports would enjoy this book. It’s a short and good introduction to a great American game.
